Military detain Mali's president, prime minister

Members of Mali's military have reportedly detained the president, prime minister and defense minister of the country's interim government. The arrests were made after a cabinet reshuffle in the interim government. Several diplomatic and government sources confirmed the matter.

Sources told that President Bah Ndaw, Prime Minister Bah Ndaw and Defense Minister Souleymane Doucoure had been taken to a military base outside the capital, Bamako.

Meanwhile, the UN mission in the country has demanded the release of the president, prime minister and defense minister. The United Nations has also called for a return to calm.

The African Union, the European Union and the Economic Community of West African States have also called for the release of the leaders.
