World Men's Day has started on November 19, 1999. The day was started by Dr. Jerome Teelucksingh, a teacher at the West Indies University in Trinidad and Tobago.

However, the celebration of Men's Day was called for in the sixties. A report in the New York Times in February 1969 stated that many people were interested in celebrating February 23 as International Men's Day. They wanted to celebrate a day similar to March 8, International Women's Day.

From the following decade, Men's Day was celebrated in the United States, Canada, France, Colombia, Russia, and China. However, different initiatives could not respond.

Finally, in 1999, the day set by Jerome Teelucksingh became International Men's Day. At that time the day was widely accepted in the Caribbean.
