Miami Building Collapse
One person has died and 99 are still missing after a 12-story building collapsed in Miami, Florida. The British media BBC quoted the local mayor as saying.

It was not immediately clear how many people were in the building adjacent to the beach when it collapsed at 1.30pm local time on Wednesday. The cause of the crash was not immediately known until noon on Thursday.

But Daniel Levine-Cava, mayor of the northern Miami-Dade town, said 102 people had been identified in the rubble of the collapsed building and 99 were still missing. The local emergency department launched rescue operations immediately after the building collapsed. 35 people have been brought out of the rubble. The condition of two of them is critical, hospital authorities said.

CCTV footage showed the middle part of a three-story 12-storey building suddenly collapsing. After a while, one of the two towers standing on either side collapsed and sank to the ground.

Half of the 130 apartment blocks in the 1981 building have disappeared.

Many Latin Americans are missing, according to the country's consulates. The Paraguayan First Lady's sister and brother-in-law are missing along with their three children and a domestic worker, the Paraguayan government has said.
