Military plane crashed in the Philippines
A military plane with at least 85 people on board has crashed in the Philippines. The country's army chief has confirmed the information.

The C-130 military plane crashed just before landing in the Jolo Islands in the Philippine province of Sulu around 11:30 a.m. Sunday. Fifteen people have been rescued from the wreckage of the burning plane, Army Chief Cyrilito Sobezana told AFP.

Most of the passengers on the plane are said to be newly trained members of the military. They were deployed in the Muslim-majority area as part of a joint task force to fight terrorism.

Indonesia has always deployed additional troops in the Jolo Island to counter the strong presence of armed groups, including Abu Sayyaf.
