Mullah Hasan Akhund could be the prime minister of Afghanistan's new Taliban government. Although relatively little known, he has been involved in party politics for a long time. He also served as a minister in the previous Taliban government. He is also on the UN terrorist list.

Taliban chief Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada had already nominated Mullah Hassan Akhund as the new head of the Taliban government. Similar news was given by Pakistan-based media Geo News.

Citing a senior Taliban leader, the Times of India reported, "Amirul Muminin Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada himself has nominated Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund as Rais-e-Jamhur or Rais-ul-Wazara or the new head of state of Afghanistan. Mollah Baradar and Mollah Abdus Salam will act as his deputies."

The Taliban seized control of Afghanistan on August 15, 2021, gaining control of Kabul. The then President Ashraf Ghani fled the country with a planeload of money. The Taliban has already begun the process of forming a government. Turkey, China, Russia, Iran, Pakistan, and Qatar have been invited to attend the ceremony.

According to the BBC, the formation of a new government is just a matter of time. Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said all important decisions had already been made. Now we are working on some technical issues.

According to reports, the Taliban could form an Iranian-style government. In that case, the party's top leader Haibatullah Akhundzada can be the 'supreme leader.

However, it is not possible to confirm anything before the official announcement.
