2 killed in Netrokona road accident

A bus driver and a supervisor were killed in a collision between a truck and a bus in Sadar Upazila of Netrokona. Another 20 people were injured in the accident.The accident took place on Netrokona-Mymensingh highway at Challisha Nurlia of the Upazila around 6:30 am on Monday. After that, the traffic on the road is stopped for about two hours.

The deceased were identified as Sabuj Mia, a resident of Nandail Upazila of Mymensingh, and Sohail, a supervisor of Dharmapasha Upazila of Sunamganj.

According to police, fire service, and locals, a bus leaving from Hathazari in Chattogram collided head-on with a rice truck leaving from Barhatta in Sadar district at around 6:30 am on Monday at Challisha Nurlia in Sadar Upazila.

The bus driver Sabuj Mia was killed on the spot. In addition, many more were injured. The bus supervisor Sohail was rescued and died on the way to the hospital.

Upon receiving the news, the police and fire service went to the spot and rescued the victims.

Out of the 20 injured in the accident, 10 seriously injured have been admitted to Netrokona Sadar Hospital.

Netrokona Fire Service Deputy Director Mamun said, "The dead and injured have been rescued and sent to the hospital with the help of locals. Besides, efforts are being made to rescue the truck driver Rabikul who was trapped by the truck and bus."

Netrokona Model Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khandaker Shaker Ahmed said the bodies of the two were kept at the hospital. After the autopsy, the body will be handed over to the relatives.

The OC further said that due to the accident, the traffic was stopped for some time but now the situation is normal.
