A Chattogram court has rejected the bail plea of Teknaf Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Pradeep Kumar Das in a case of illegally earning around Tk. 3.95 crore.

The court of Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman on Thursday rejected Pradeep's bail application.

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) had filed a case against OC Pradeep and his wife Chumki Karan for illegally acquiring assets.

ACC lawyer Mahmudul Haque confirmed the information.

Earlier, on September 1, the ACC filed a charge sheet against the two and the court accepted it.

Lawyer Mahmudul Haque said the court had ordered advertisements in newspapers to search for Pradeep's wife Chumki Karan as she was absconding.

ACC Assistant Director Riaz Uddin filed the case against Chumki and Pradeep at Chattogram Office-1 on August 23 last year on charges of illegally earning around Tk 3.95 crore.

ACC official Riaz Uddin told: "Former OC Pradeep and his wife Chumki hid Tk 1.313 lakh in their income tax returns and amassed assets worth Tk 3.95 crore through bribery and corruption. A case has been filed against them under the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, Prevention of Money Laundering Act, and Prevention of Corruption Act."
