7 arrested over alleged online gambling

Police have arrested seven people for gambling online in a raid at Joydharkhali village of Pagla police station in Mymensingh's Gafargaon upazila. During this time 28 mobiles, chargers, various devices and account books were recovered from them.

The arrested are Habibullah (28) and Md. Iqbal Ahmed (21), Anisur (18), Rana Mia (18), Md. Robin (17), Rajib Mia (19) and Ariful Islam (21). They are all residents of different areas of Pagla police station and school-college students.

Pagla police officer in charge (OC) Rasheduzzaman said they were arrested in a raid in Joydharkhali village of Gayeshpur union under Pagla police station on Friday afternoon, May 21. They operated and gambled online through mobile apps. They used to participate in gambling by attracting common people through various Facebook groups. Domestic and foreign fraudsters are involved in this game.

SI Rafiqul Islam became the plaintiff and filed a case against them under sections 35 and 36 of the Digital Security Act.

In this regard, Additional Superintendent of Police Mahfuza Khatun of Gafargaon Circle said that the arrested persons used cash, bKash and rocket agents for gambling. Huge amount of money has been swindled from the people of Gafargaon and Bhaluka upazila of the district.
