Over 350 Mobile phones and Gold seized from the Airport

Over 350 mobile phones of different brands and 1.5 kg of gold ornaments have been seized by the preventive team of Dhaka Customs House at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. One passenger was detained at the time.


Friday, April 29 Dhaka Customs House Preventive Team Deputy Commissioner (DC) MD. Sanwar Kabir has confirmed the matter.

He said a passenger from Dubai landed at Shahjalal Airport in the middle of the night on Thursday, April 26 on an Emirates Airlines flight EK-584. Earlier, we had secret information that the passenger was bringing illegal phones and gold ornaments from Dubai.

The passenger was later detained at the airport. A search of his 6 luggage turned up 273 iPhones, Samsung Note 20s, Google Pixels and more than 350 mobile phones. Besides, about 1 kg 600 grams of gold ornaments and gold bars were found in the possession of the passenger. These illegal goods were later seized.

He said the sophisticated mobile phones and gold ornaments and gold bars have an estimated market value of around Tk 7 crore.

He said two cases would be filed against the passenger under customs law and criminal law.
