10 lakh Covishield vaccine reached in Dhaka

One million doses of the Covishield vaccine produced by the Seram Institute of India have reached the country from India. The vaccine arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a flight of Emirates Airlines at 5.25 pm on Saturday.

Airport Aviation Security (AVSEC) sources confirmed the information.

Meanwhile, sources in the Ministry of Health said that the representatives of Beximco Pharmaceuticals received this 1 million dose of Serum vaccine from the airport at 5:54 pm.

Bangladesh signed an agreement with Serum on December 13 last year to buy 30 million doses of the Oxford-Astrazeneca vaccine. About Tk 1,300 crore was paid in advance to Seram to get the vaccine.

According to the agreement, Bangladesh was to receive 5 million doses per month. But, so far 7 million dose vaccines have been received in 2 installments. In addition, the Government of India sent 3.3 million doses of vaccine as a gift.
