Staff Correspondent
While passing through the middle of pillars number two and three of the Padma Bridge, it has come up in various media that the ro-ro ferry Birshreshtha Jahangir hit the mast span of the Padma bridge.

However, Padma Bridge Executive Engineer Dewan Abdul Quader claimed that manpower was sent to the spot after hearing about the incident on Tuesday morning and after talking to the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) authorities, they said no such incident had taken place.

Shafiqul Islam, deputy general manager of BIWTC, claimed, "In fact, there was no collision occurred. What you have heard may be wrong."

BIWTC Marine Officer Ahmed Ali said, "In fact, there was no span collision with Ferry. In the morning a ferry departs from Shimulia Ghat to Paturia Ghat. While the row of the ferry was passing through Padma Bridge, the flag stand could be carried up and down, it was down. There was no collision or rubbing with the Padma bridge or with the pillars or spans."
