8th Partnership Dialogue among Bangladesh-USA

Staff Correspondent
Bangladesh and the United States are holding the 8th “Partnership Dialogue” in Dhaka as the two countries expect to have “closer understanding” and extensive relations removing gaps.

Bangladesh will raise the sanction issue as it thinks US sanction on RAB and other individuals is "baseless, manufactured & politically persuaded"

This is the main such reciprocal gathering after the authorizations forced by the US on people and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB).

Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen is leading the Bangladesh delegation while Under Secretary for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland, the third-ranked official at the US Department of State, is leading the US side at the discourse that started at State guesthouse the Padma on Sunday morning.

Prior, Foreign Secretary Masud Momen and Under Secretary Nuland had private conversations at a similar setting before the conventional start of the discourse.

Bangladesh will raise the assents issue at the discourse as it accepts that the approvals are "ridiculous, and were forced in view of manufactured and politically persuaded inputs" given by similar vested quarters.

After the assents were forced on December 10, 2021, Bangladesh quickly communicated its profound discontent, gathering the US minister in Dhaka.

The foreign secretary has said the relations between Bangladesh and the US have many variables and determinants and will be extended and widened through several dialogues, exchange of visits, and track-2 engagements in the coming months.

Nuland, who will meet Foreign Minister Dr. AK Abdul Momen after the partnership dialogue, is in Dhaka as part of her tri-nation visit to South Asia as she will be visiting India and Sri Lanka where she sees US partnerships are crucial to reinforcing harmony, thriving, and security throughout the Indo-Pacific area.

Under Secretary Nuland will meet civil society and business pioneers to strengthen economic partnerships and develop ties chasing after harmony, prosperity, and success in the Indo-Pacific area.

The United States sees the impending "Partnership Dialogue" with Bangladesh as an opportunity to expand the "robust relationship" between the two nations, as per an authority official posted at the US Embassy in Dhaka.

The whole array of relations between the two countries -security participation, trade, labor rights, investment opportunities, human rights, governance, global threats including environmental change, and open Indo-Pacific region are all expected to fall within the ambit of the discourse.
