people in Bangladesh will be displaced
As a result of the rising sea level, about 17 percent of Bangladesh will be submerged by 2050. As a result, 20 million people in the country will be displaced.

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet quoted a report at the 48th session of the Human Rights Council on Tuesday.

She said more than 80 percent of the Maldives' landmass is less than one meter above sea level, already facing severe damage that will only get worse as sea levels rise.

According to the report, most parts of Southeast Asia, including Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, could be flooded by 2050 at high tide in areas inhabited by more than 48 million people.

Displacement due to environmental disasters is a serious phenomenon in Asia. According to the report, in 2019, China, Bangladesh, India, and the Philippines have more displacements due to disasters than other countries, which is 70 percent of the world's total.
