'Initiatives taken to produce vaccines in country'

In Parliament, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that besides collecting coronavirus vaccines from different countries of the world, initiatives have been taken to produce vaccines in the country. That is why discussions are underway with various countries and manufacturing companies on technology transfer.

She was responding to a question from Begum Monira Sultan, a Member of Parliament for the reserved women's seat in the question and answer session of the National Assembly on Wednesday, June 02.

The Prime Minister said the closure of educational institutions was announced with the implementation of nationwide and regional lockdown to prevent corona infection. The government has taken various incentive measures to save livelihood and economy including providing relief assistance to the poor people of the country. Financial incentives have been provided to frontline fighters in the fight against corona, including doctors and nurses, health workers, law enforcement and the administration. Compared to many developed countries including South Asia, Bangladesh has proved its ability to prevent the spread of corona.

She said the corona vaccination program is underway with a total of 1 crore 2 lakh doses of vaccine obtained from the Seram Institute of India. Till May 18 this year, a total of 96 lakh 41 thousand 312 doses of vaccine have been given to different people of the country.

PM added that Bangladesh is one of the first countries in the world to be able to start vaccination efforts to prevent corona infection.
