2 killed in Rangamati landslide

Two construction workers have been killed in a landslide while constructing a house in Kaukhali upazila of Rangamati district. Kaukhali Police Station OC SS Shahidul Islam told that the incident took place on Friday morning.

The dead workers are- Md. Peer Mohammad (50) and Sufal Barua (38).

The OC said Sadhu Baruah, an assistant teacher at Daluchhari Government Primary School, had already illegally cut down the hill next to his house.

On Friday morning, two workers were constructing new walls near the hill. At that time, when the hill of the part suddenly collapsed, two workers were crushed in it. Upon receiving the news, the locals went and rescued the two dead.

Bikash Sarkar, IC police inspector at Betbunia police outpost, said a team of them recovered the bodies of two people from the spot after receiving information from locals. He was later sent to Rangamati General Hospital for autopsy.

The OC said no one from the families of the victims had lodged a written complaint. They will take necessary action if any complaint is received.
