Muslims are almost always portrayed negatively in Western cinema. The first Oscar-winning Muslim actor Riz Ahmed took the initiative to change such a picture. He expressed his fellings in a video message on his social media handle on June 11, Friday.

Ridge spoke about the provision of funding and advice for Muslim storytellers in Muslim inclusive initiatives.

"It is not possible to remain silent on the way Muslims are being humiliated on screen," he said.

He added, ‘The skyscraper success of Muslim actors alone is not enough to change the negative state of Western cinema about Islam. Instead, it is important to take initiative to improve the situation.

According to a survey by the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, titled Missing and Malanted, less than 10 percent of the films released in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia between 2016 and 2019 featured Muslim characters.

"Muslim is not a negative idea," Reese said.

"But that is what is being highlighted on the screen. We are really upset to see that. The industry needs to change that."

Riz Ahmed is a British citizen of Pakistani descent. He became the first Muslim to win an Oscar for Best Actor for The Sound of Metal.
