Road blockade in Narayanganj
Workers of a garment factory in Narayanganj are protesting by blocking the road demanding arrears of salary. Workers of Ruposhi Garments took to the streets in the Shibu Market area of Fatulla in Sadar Upazila around 11 am on Thursday.

Due to the road blockade, traffic on the Dhaka-Narayanganj link road has been stopped. This has caused long traffic jams on both sides of the road. It is learned that the road blockade is going on till the last news received.

According to eyewitnesses and police, about two and a half thousand workers work in Ruposhi Garments. However, the factory has arrears for the workers in February and March. Yesterday, on Wednesday, the workers were supposed to be paid for the month of February. But due to the non-payment of wages, the workers started protesting inside the factory around 10 am today. At one stage, they came out of the factory and blocked the Dhaka-Narayanganj road.

As a result, the traffic on that road has been stopped. At around 11:30 am, a team of Fatullah police and industrial police went and tried to remove the agitated workers from the road but failed. The workers demanded their arrears today. Otherwise, protests will continue.

Meanwhile, Nasir Uddin, assistant deputy general manager of Ruposhi Garments, came to the spot around one o'clock and announced that the arrears for the month of February would be paid within the next seven days. However, the workers have rejected Nasir Uddin's proposal. The factory authorities and the industrial police have been seen talking to the workers agitating for a compromise in this regard.

When asked, Additional Superintendent of Police (Circle) Nazmul Hasan told that garment workers had blocked the road demanding arrears of salary. Attempts are being made to remove them from the road.
