Rozina Islam to jail after rejecting the remand

Dhaka court today sent Prothom Alo Senior Correspondent Rozina Islam to jail after rejecting the remand prayer in a case filed against her under Bangladesh Penal Code and Official Secrets Act.

Relevant sources of the court have confirmed this information. A remand hearing held in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, journalist Rozina Islam was taken to court from Shahbagh police station. Rozina reached the court around 8 am.

Journalist Rozina Islam went to the Ministry of Health on Monday, May 17 to perform her professional duties. She was detained and harassed for more than 5 hours. At one point she fell ill. She was brought to Shahbagh police station from the secretariat around 9 pm.

A case was filed against Rozina Islam at Shahbagh police station on Monday night. Based on the complaint of the Ministry of Health, Deputy Secretary of the Department of Health Services. Md. Shibbir Ahmed Usmani filed the case. The health ministry has accused journalist Rozina of taking pictures of important government documents on her mobile phone without permission and hiding some other documents.
