Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement that the travel ban on 29 US and 61 Canadian citizens would remain in effect indefinitely. Among them are defense officials, business leaders and journalists from both countries.
U.S. defense officials include Pentagon spokesman John Kirby and Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks.
At the top of the list are Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's communications director, Cameron Ahmed, and Canadian Special Operations Forces Commander Steve Boivin.
According to the State Department, the United States and Canada have included people involved in the formulation of "anti-Russian" policies in the sanctions list.
Earlier, Facebook and Instagram, owned by Mark Zuckerberg, were banned in Russia. Moscow has described the two social media sites as "extremist."
