'Due to lack of political will adaptation activities are not implemented'

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has informed the world leaders that Bangladesh has planted 30 million saplings this year and is going to launch 'Mujib Climate Prosperity Plan' in the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

She made the remarks while addressing a meeting of leaders titled 'Action and Solidarity - Critical Decade' at the COP26 event in Glasgow on Monday.

The Prime Minister said Bangladesh has recently introduced an ambitious National Determined Contribution (NDC).

She added that Bangladesh has also drafted a national adaptation plan with significant expansion of its adaptation initiatives.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that global adaptation activities are not being implemented due to lack of aegis and strong political will.

She said that for adaptation and mitigation, developed countries must meet their: 100 billion annual climate financing commitments, including their 50:50 allocation.

The Prime Minister further said that the developed countries need the support and assistance of the affected countries. The meeting was hosted by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson and the Prime Minister of Italy Mario Draghi.

As the President of CVF (Climate Vulnerable Forum) and the South Asia Office of the Global Center on Adaptation, Sheikh Hasina said Bangladesh is developing adaptation under local leadership in different countries of the world.
