Shimulia-Banglabazar route
Passenger pressure on the Shimulia-Banglabazar route has increased due to the announcement of strict lockdown across the country to prevent corona infection. Thousands of people are crossing the ferry. The ferry carries more passengers than freight trucks and emergency vehicles. However, no one was seen following the hygiene rules. Again, many did not even wear a face mask.

The picture can be seen on Saturday, June 26 in the morning. The number of passengers heading to Dhaka is a bit higher. Although only freight and emergency vehicles are allowed to cross, private vehicles are also seen crossing the ferry.

Meanwhile, there are police checkposts at several points of the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway and at the entrance of Shimulia Ghat. Police are trying to control the movement of passengers at the check post.

In this regard, Faisal Ahmed, Assistant Manager (Commerce), Shimuliaghat, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said, "Currently, there are 15 ferries operating on the route. There has been a slight rush of passengers since morning.

However, there is no car pressure. Passengers are coming to the wharf even though there is talk of free car crossing under lockdown. We are not responsible for passenger control."

Zakir Hossain, in-charge of Mawa Traffic Police, said they were being urged to follow the lockdown instructions. But passengers are coming to the ghat from Dhaka in different ways. Again the passengers coming from Banglabazar Ghat are trying to go to Dhaka.
