Homebound people rush at Shimulia ferry terminal

Shimulia ferry terminal of Munshiganj is under pressure of homebound passengers and vehicles in the country's south Bengal ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr. Passengers are gathering at Shimulia Ghat area to reach the destination from Friday, May 07 in the morning.

Meanwhile, passengers have to cross the ferry as launches and speedboats are closed in the Padma. Cars are not going to cross the ferries under excessive pressure. As a result, more than 700 private and cargo vehicles are stuck waiting to cross the ghat area. The Shimuliaghat authorities said that there are currently 13 ferries plying the route.

Safayet Ahmed, Manager (Commerce), Shimulia Ghat, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC), said the upcoming Eid and holidays, which has put a lot of pressure on passengers. Every effort is being made to ensure smooth crossing of vehicles and passengers. There are 13 ferries running on the route.
