Hollywood's first black Oscar-winning actor Sidney Poitier has passed away. He was 94 years old. He won an Oscar in 1963 for his film Lilies of the Field.

Sidney is the first black man to win an Oscar for Best Actor. The news of the actor's death has been confirmed by the Deputy Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Chester Cooper.

He started his acting career in 1955 with the movie 'Blackboard Jungle'. He played the role of a schoolboy in the film.

The actor was nominated for an Oscar for the first time in 1958 for The Defiant Ones.

Sydney was born in 1927 in Miami. Children of peasant families. He moved to New York at the age of 16. After that, he started acting in American Negro theater.
