Bangladesh is monitoring the situation in Myanmar, said Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of Myanmar's ruling National League for Democracy (NLD), made the remarks after the army detained several top leaders of the ruling party, including President Win Myint.

The details of the current situation in Myanmar will be shared with reporters later, the foreign minister told the media on Monday, February 01.

The country's military has taken control of Myanmar through a coup.

Earlier in the day, National League for Democracy (NLD) leader Aung San Suu Kyi, Myanmar's president and several top NLD leaders were detained by the country's military. Meanwhile, the army has declared a state of emergency across the country.

The BBC reports that after the coup, Myanmar's military said the country was now under their control. The Myanmar army says they has handed over power to Commander-in-Chief Min Aung Hlaing.
