Five policemen were stabbed when they were taken to the police station after capturing two 'snatchers' from Gulistan in Dhaka.
The incident took place under Bangshal Police Station around 1 am on Wednesday, said SI Alamgir Hossain of Bangshal Police Station.

Earlier on Tuesday night, a police SI named Jahangir Mia was stabbed by a 'miscreant' in Gulistan. The next night, three more policemen were reportedly stabbed by the snatcher.

SI Alamgir Hossain said police were bringing two 'snatchers' named Jewel and Emon from Gulistan to the police station.

"As soon as reached the ground floor of the police station building, snatchers stabbed police constables Nazrul Islam, Sajib, and Tajul Islam with their knives. The other policemen went ahead and stopped the snatchers."

SI Alamgir said the injured policemen were later taken to hospital. Constable Nazrul was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Constable Sajib and Tajul have returned after first aid.

Asked if the kidnappers were searched after the arrest and how the knife remained with them, SI Alamgir said, "There was some negligence. Maybe they left for the police station without searching the body properly and the accident happened after coming down."

The matter is being investigated by senior officials, said police member Alamgir.

Earlier on Tuesday night, Shahbagh Police Station SI Jahangir Mia was walking in Gulistan area in police uniform when a miscreant stabbed him in the right rib and fled.
