Suicide bomber kills 9 in Somalia

At least nine people have been killed in a suicide bombing in the Somali capital, Mogadishu. Among the dead were several members of the army.

Police and eyewitnesses said members of the security forces, as well as civilians, were killed in the suicide attack on Tuesday.

Al-Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing in Mogadishu, Qatar-based Al Jazeera reported.

A police official told the French news agency AFP that the horrific incident was still under investigation.

The official said at least six members of the security forces and several civilians were killed in the attack. In addition, many more were injured.

Another Mogadishu police official claimed the death toll had risen to 11. He told the Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency that the bomber struck shortly afternoon in front of a tea shop in Mogadishu.

Preliminary investigations confirmed it was a suicide attack. He said the bomber detonated its explosives in front of a local tea shop. Members of the security forces and some civilians were present at the time of the attack. At least 11 people, including the army, were killed. Several others were injured.
