Sundarbans set to reopen
The Sundarbans will be open to tourists from next Wednesday, September 1, according to the Tour Operators Association.

The decision was taken at a meeting with leaders of the Forest Department and the Tour Operators Association of Sundarbans, Khulna, on Sunday. However, the forest department has given some rules and conditions here.

Forest Conservator, Khulna Region, Mihir Kumar Dey said the Sundarbans would be opened to tourists from September 1 following the 'Sundarbans Travel' policy approved by the cabinet.

Each launch cannot carry more than 75 passengers. Social distance and hygiene must be obeyed. Appropriate sanitizer should be provided.

The forest department will take legal action against any tour operator for carrying more tourists or disturbing the environment by violating the mentioned policy.

Meanwhile, M Nazmul Azam David, general secretary of the Tour Operators Association, said business had been closed for a long time. He thanked the government for launching Sundarbans-centric tourism. He said the leaders of the organization have complied with all the policies of the forest department.

It may be mentioned that if the coronavirus pandemic takes shape in the country, the forest department has imposed a ban on tourists visiting the Sundarbans from March 26 last year. After more than a year and a half, the Sundarbans will be opened from September 1.
