Truck hit a CNG-run autorickshaw in Sylhet, killed 5

Five people, including a driver, were killed when a CNG-powered autorickshaw overturned at Jaintapur in Sylhet. Two people were injured in the incident. The accident took place on the Sylhet-Tamabil highway on Sunday, May 02 at around 6.45 am.

The deceased were residents of Pakhibil and Rupcheng villages of the upazila. Besides, two children, one woman and four others were killed in the accident.

The deceased were identified as Hossain Ahmed, 35, son of late Arab Ali of Pakhibil village in Jaintapur, Sadia Begum, 30, wife of Jamal Ahmed of Rupcheng village, seven-year-old child Fabia Begum and four-month-old child Shahadat Hossain and Atbia Habibun Nesha, 33.

The injured are the son of the late Arjan Ali of Rupcheng village and the brother-in-law of the deceased Sadia Begum, Zakaria (50) and Zakaria's wife Hasina Begum (40).

Police said a truck was heading towards Jaflong from Sylhet to transport the stones. On the way, a CNG-powered autorickshaw hit the Sylhet-Tamabil road from the road inside the village. At that time, the autorickshaw overturned due to the impact of the truck. Five people were killed on the spot.

The two injured were rushed to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Jaintapur Model Police Station Dastagir Ahmed confirmed the matter.

He said the police rescued the victims and sent them to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy and treatment. Besides, trucks and autorickshaws involved in the accident have been seized.
