Tamil Nadu floods
Heavy rains have caused floods in India again within a month. The floodwaters have created a precarious situation in the state of Tamil Nadu. Four deaths have been reported in the state so far due to the floods.

State authorities said several cities, including Chennai, were badly damaged in the heavy rains for several days till Monday local time.

Four people have died due to the floods. About 60 houses have been damaged. About 1,500 people have been evacuated from the flood-hit area.

Rescue team members are still working.

Heavy rains have lashed 36 districts of Tamil Nadu since Saturday morning. According to the country's meteorologists, the state has not received such rainfall in the last six years.

The maximum rainfall recorded in Tamil Nadu on Saturday was the highest since the 2015 floods. Meteorologists are blaming the low pressure in the Bay of Bengal for the rains.

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday visited flood-hit areas in Chennai due to rains. He also sought the cooperation of the Center for strengthening relief assistance.

The country's meteorological office has forecast heavy to extremely heavy rains in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, and adjoining areas of Paducheri on Tuesday. As a result, there are fears that the flood situation could worsen.
