The body of Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury has reached the country
Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight has departed from London's Heathrow Airport to Dhaka with the body of Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury, the composer of immortal music of the great Ekushey.
The body of Gaffar Chowdhury left for the country on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG202) flight at around 12 midnight Bangladesh time on Friday, the Bangladesh High Commission in London said in a message.
According to the High Commission, Abdul Ghaffar Chowdhury's body was flown by Biman Bangladesh Airlines (BG202) from London's Heathrow Airport on Friday evening local time. The body will arrive at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Saturday, May 28 at noon. Family members of the late Abdul Gaffar Chowdhury are also coming to Dhaka on the same flight.
Saida Muna Tasneem, Bangladesh High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, was present at Heathrow Airport when Gaffar Chowdhury's body was taken off the plane.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday said that the body of the late Gaffar Chowdhury would be received at the Dhaka airport by the Minister for Liberation War Affairs A K M Mozammel Haque.
His body will be laid to rest at the National Shaheed Minar around 1 pm on Saturday. Janazah will be held at the Central Mosque of Dhaka University at 3:30 pm. His body will be taken to the National Press Club at 4 pm. His body will be buried at Mirpur Shaheed Buddhijibi Cemetery at 5.30 pm.
Gaffar Chowdhury died on May 19 at Burnett Hospital in London, UK. He was 88 years old at the time of his death. He was suffering from various complications of old age including diabetes and kidney disease.
