The voter list update starts today

The data collection activities which start today will continue till June 9. The voter list update process is starting today, May 20.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal will inaugurate the voter list update program 2022 at Savar Upazila Parishad auditorium at 10 am today. Three other commissioners will also inaugurate the update program from different parts of the country.

The data collection activity will continue till June 9. After that, their registration activities will start on June 10. The registration process for this phase will be completed by July 21. After that, step by step, voter information collection and registration activities will continue in other Upazilas of the country till November 20 this year.

In the first phase, this activity will be carried out by going door to door in 139 Upazilas of the country and collecting information. Although data collection of 140 Upazilas was planned at this stage, data collection of Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet has been suspended due to flash floods. Information will be collected from the citizens of the country who were born on or before January 1, 2006. In addition, those who could not include their names as voters for various reasons before, will also be updated voters. Information on dead voters will also be collected during the voter list update process. Voter transfer application can also be made at this time.

According to the updated information of the Election Commission, the total number of voters in the country till March 2 is 11 crore 32 lakh 87 thousand 10 people. Of these, 5 crores 76 lakh 89 thousand 529 are males and 5 crores 55 lakh 97 thousand 27 are females. As of now, 50.92% of the total voters in the country are men and 49.08% are women. In the last year January 19, 2022, there have been a little over 1.4 million new voters. Males constitute 69% of the population and females only 31%.
