The world is now in the ‘beginning stage’ of the third wave of the novel coronavirus. The chief of the World Health Organization (WHO),  Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, made the remarks.

"We are now in the early stages of the third wave of corona," Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said at the start of the eighth meeting of the International Health Regulations (IHR) on Covid-19.

The head of the WHO added that corona infections and deaths had been on the decline for 10 weeks. But, since last week, infections and deaths have started to rise worldwide. He cited the highly contagious type of corona, Delta, as the reason.

Tedros said the Delta type is now spread across 111 countries around the world. It will soon become the regulatory form of corona around the world.

The head of the WHO criticized the touching inequality of vaccines, saying that the lack of vaccines meant leaving most people in the world at the mercy of the pandemic.

Tedros added that many countries in the world have not yet received any vaccine. Again many did not get the required amount.

As Tedros noted, COVAX is working, but to a limited extent.

COVAX has so far delivered 100 million doses of the vaccine.
