20 fishermen missing as trawler sinks in Bay of Bengal

A fishing trawler from the Patharghata area of ​​Barguna capsized in the Bay of Bengal due to the rough weather by cyclone 'Jawad'. One fisherman of the trawler that sank with 21 fishermen was rescued but 20 fishermen are still missing.

Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, president of the Barguna District Fishermen's Trawler Owners' Association, told on Tuesday morning.

He said, Hafizur Rahman (40) was found floating around 11 pm last night by Md Mohsin, the driver of another trawler, FB Safwar, who later rescued him.

He said Hafizur Rahman was undergoing local treatment in the Chhakina area of ​​Taltoli Upazila.

Referring to the rescued fisherman Hafizur Rahman, Golam Mostafa Chowdhury further said, “The trawler overturned and sank. We are worried about the lives of the remaining 20 fishermen.

The trawler sank in the Sonarchar area of ​​the Bay of Bengal on Sunday morning. The trawler is said to be from the Aminabad area of ​​Bhola Char Fashion.

Patharghata Police Station OC Abul Basar told, “The matter is not known. If anyone complains, action will be taken."
