A passenger trawler sank at the Gazaria river in Barisal's Mehendiganj Upazila. Police have recovered the bodies of the mother and daughter from the accident site. Three people are still missing in the incident, police said.

The accident took place at 10:30 am on Friday, April 8 in the Lalkharabad area of ​​the Gazaria river in Mehendiganj.

The deceased were identified as Nasreen Begum, 25, and her mother Mahinur Begum, 55. They are residents of the area. Officer-in-charge of Kaliganj Naval Police Outpost Faruk Hossain confirmed

He said an open body trawler with 8 passengers was going to Dalil Khajuria from Mehendiganj Majherchar around 10:30 am. On the way to Gazaria, the trawler overturned due to strong waves. A Coast Guard team patrolling the river near the scene rescued them.

The Coast Guard recovered the bodies of the mother and daughter and the passengers of the trawler. Besides, 3 people were rescued alive but 3 people are still missing, the official said.

The OC further said that the bodies of the mother and daughter killed in the trawler sinking have been kept at Mehendiganj Upazila Health Complex. In addition, the survivors have been given first aid locally.

Mehendiganj Police Station Inspector Touhid Zaman said the Coast Guard was conducting a rescue operation in the incident.
