Three women farmers have died after being crushed by a truck at the Tikri border in the Indian capital, New Delhi. The driver of the truck has been absconding since the incident. The incident took place during the ongoing protests of farmers centered on the peasant movement at the Tikri border.

According to Indian media NDTV, farmers from Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh have been protesting on the Delhi-Haryana border for the past 11 months against the country's controversial agricultural law. The three women farmers from Punjab went to the Tikri area to participate in the protest.

They were waiting for the auto on their way home on Wednesday. At that time a truck lost control and fell on the road divider. The three women farmers fell under the truck and were crushed.

Two people died on the spot. Another died at the hospital. Police have started searching the entire area after the incident.

The slain women farmers are residents of the Mansa district of Punjab. They used to come to the Tikri border regularly and take part in the farmers' programs.
