US launches a website for Ukrainian evacuees

US on Monday, April 25th, launched a website for Americans to file applications to sponsor Ukrainians seeking to temporarily flee to the US.
The Department of Homeland Security last week declared the Uniting for Ukraine initiative, which permits Americans to financially sponsor Ukrainian evacuees.
The website is only open to potential sponsors in the USA. It includes links to forms that prove an individual's financial ability to be a sponsor.
US has said that Ukrainians arriving will not go through the normal refugee process, but will rather be conceded compassionate parole that permits them to remain in the US for two years.
Around 15,000 Ukrainians who needed proper identification documents have arrived at USA border crossings in the past three months.
Last week the Biden organization reported that beginning on Monday, April 25th, Ukrainians who lack travel papers will be expected to go through the Uniting for Ukraine program in order to be allowed entry.
