The United States has said in a statement that at least five Iranian-backed Iraqi militias have been killed in a series of airstrikes in Iraq and Syria since Sunday, according to a statement from the United States. The military says it has targeted two processing and warehousing facilities in Syria and one in Iraq.

The airstrikes were carried out at the behest of President Biden. This was his second retaliatory strike against Iranian-backed militias since taking power five months ago. He ordered the first airstrikes in February in response to the rocket attacks in Iraq. Biden is sending a clear message that he will intervene militarily to protect US military personnel and installations.

The Pentagon said the airstrikes targeted Iranian-backed militias, installations used by Kata'ib Hezbollah and Kata'ib Sayyid al-Shuhada.

The Syrian state news agency SANA reported that one child was killed and three others were injured in the attack
