Vaccine has arrived in Bangladesh

20 lakh doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine sent as a gift from India have arrived in Bangladesh.

The special Air India flight arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 11:17 am on Thursday,January 21. The vaccine will be handed over to the state guest house Padma at noon.

Indian Ambassador Vikram Doraiswamy is expected to hand over the vaccines to Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and Health Minister Zahid Malek.

Initially, doctors, nurses, heroic freedom fighters, teachers, police, army, administration, journalists will be vaccinated. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the vaccination program. It is scheduled to be inaugurated from Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka.

Bangladesh is also officially buying another 3 crore doses of the vaccine from the Seram Institute of India, with the first shipment expected to reach 50 lakh doses by January 25.
