The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) recovered a large consignment of yaba from a Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhia upazila of Cox's Bazar. A former refugee camp boatman has been arrested on suspicion of involvement in the incident.

The consignment of five and a half lakh yaba was recovered from the G-block of Camp No. 9 of Balukhali Rohingya camp in the upazila on Monday night. RAB says it is the largest shipment of yaba seized in Rohingya camps.

Gura Mia, 45, a Rohingya national arrested at the time, was said to be the head of Camp No. 9.

Cox's Bazar RAB-15 Deputy Commander Major Mehedi Hasan said on Tuesday that the Rohingya boatman named Gura Mia was waiting for a large consignment of yaba from Myanmar to be smuggled into his house.

Later, on the basis of secret information, five and a half lakh yaba was recovered from the middleman's house in the camp. Gura Mia was arrested at that time.

Gura Mia will be arrested and sent to court in a case filed in this regard, law enforcement agency said.
