The Dhaka Metro Office (South) of the Narcotics Control Department has arrested three drug dealers along with 71,000 pieces of Yaba from Pallabi in the capital.

Two private cars used for transporting drugs were also seized at the time.

The arrested are Moni Islam (29), Jannatul Ferdous Rupa (19), and Md. Shahadat Hossain (32).

The information was given at a press conference held at DNC's Dhaka Metro Office (South) at Gandaria in the capital on Thursday, December 2.

This information was given at the press conference by Parveen Akhter, Deputy Director, Dhaka Metro Office (South), DNC.

Parveen Akhtar said that on the basis of secret information, A team from DNC's Dhaka Metro Office (South) arrested three drug dealers.

Upon immediate interrogation, they were told that they had another private car in the basement of Navana Tower, Section 11, Pallabi, which contained a large number of Yaba tablets. A search of the vehicle at Navana Tower later appear 71,000 Yaba tablets. They were later confiscated. Along with this, two private cars used for transporting drugs have been seized.

She said the Yaba consignment was seized and brought to Dhaka from Teknaf. They had planned to supply these to different drug spots in the capital.

The head of this circle is Raju Mollah alias Sujan. There are 4 cases against him including drugs and weapons. In the absence of her husband, wife Moni Islam was running a drug business. She was assisted by two other detainees.

Earlier, there were 4 cases against Moni in different police stations of the capital including Shah Ali. She was released on bail on November 26 after serving a long sentence.

Parveen Akhtar said they collect Yaba directly from Cox's Bazar by private car and supply it to different parts of the country including Dhaka.

Efforts are underway to find out if there are any other drug traffickers involved in the scam.

In response to a question, she said that a case was filed against Moni and her husband under the Narcotics Control Act of 2019 for keeping 31,500 pieces of Yaba. Monir's husband is in jail.

She said a case was pending against the detainees at Pallabi police station under the Narcotics Control Act.
